UPDATE: All Schools Will Reopen On Tuesday, Jan. 18

UPDATE: As of 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 17, all APS schools will re-open tomorrow, Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022.

While we are still dealing with the cyberattack that forced schools to close last week, we have found ways to work around the issues so that students can return to learning. We will be able to take attendance, contact parents in emergencies, and assure that students are picked up from school by authorized adults.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation. Please remember that students will need to make up the two missed days in May.

We will post cyberattack updates as they become available on aps.edu.

As of 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 13,  all Albuquerque Public Schools will remain closed on Friday as the district continues to investigate a cyberattack that compromised the student information system used to take attendance, contact families in emergencies, and assure that students are picked up from school by authorized adults.

  • APS schools and offices are closed Monday, Jan. 17 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. APS plans to re-open schools on Tuesday, Jan. 18.
  • Athletics and other extracurricular activities are expected to continue as scheduled. However, meals won’t be served on days schools are closed.
  • APS administrative offices will remain open Friday, and essential school employees are also expected to report to work.

As of 3:15 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 12, the district is working with contracted professionals to fix the problem, and we hope to re-open schools Friday, Jan. 14. However, if the issue isn’t resolved by mid-day Thursday, students, families, and staff will be notified.

  • The school days will need to be made up at the end of the school year, just as snow days would be.
  • At this time, athletic games, tournaments, and other extracurricular activities are expected to continue as scheduled.
  • Meals won’t be served on days schools are closed.

APS administrative offices will remain open Thursday and Friday, and essential school employees are also expected to report to work. Employees will be paid on Friday as normal.

About Our School

Founded in 1970, School On Wheels is an APS non-traditional magnet high school. Our innovative schedule and curriculum offers students the opportunity to work toward graduation and/or make up credits. Students can gain elective credits through outside employment or volunteer hours. Our calendar, graduation requirements, and diplomas are the same as those of other APS district high schools. Students can work in person or online, attending classes in the morning and working one on one with staff in the afternoon.
The School On Wheels staff educates students through student/teacher designed lessons to make learning more relevant and "real world". Personalized relationships are our number one goal to help students be successful while at School on Wheels. During their senior year, students work on career exploration and development to assist students with future plans.
